About Us

Bill Welch

A 48 year resident of Arizona with an avid interest in the west and its history. After attending high school in Scottsdale, Bill majored in history at the University of Arizona where this interest was further fueled. In the early 1970's, Bill started collecting western art and artifacts and researching the lifestyle and gear of the early cowboys and native Americans.

After a twenty year career as a military officer, Bill returned to Phoenix and helped established a commercial real estate company. In 1996, Bill decided to channel his efforts into what he loved most, dealing in western art and artifacts. Parts of his collection were represented at many valley galleries and he quickly became one of the major dealers at the premier shows around the country. His clients include the most influencial collectors in the United States. His goal is to preserve the history and gear of this finite period in our history.

In 2004, Bill went into partnership with two of his industries major contributors, Brian Lebel of Cody Old West and Keith and Lisa Seidel of Seidel's Saddlery in Cody, Wyoming to open the most unique gallery of contemporary and antique western items ever assembled in one store.

Brian Lebel

After a stint on local ranches and wilderness outfitting, Brian Lebel opened his first cowboy antique store in 1981. With a lifelong love of the west and frontier history Brian opened Old West Antiques in downtown Cody, Wyoming.

The store was the first of kind with an inventory of true old west artifacts for the serious collector. After years of limited marketplaces for the cowboy collector the Cody Old West Show & Auction was founded by Brian in 1989 and was an instant success with the fans of the old west.

The show and auction has grown to be one of the biggest and best quality venues of it's type in the world, and has offered collectors a place to meet every year in June.

Brian is an approved appraiser of western material for most major museums in the country and has advised and worked with the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, The Autry Museum of Western Heritage, The National Cowboy Hall of Fame, The National Cowgirl Museum, many other institutions and private collectors. Working with the curators at the museums and many well known authors of books on the subject has given Brian a unique look at items that would normally take a lifetime to examine.

In opening the Cowboy Legacy Gallery in Carefree, Arizona in 2004 with Lisa and Keith Seidel and Bill Welch, there becomes a place to find under one roof the best of western items, old, new, custom and one of a kind treasures. With Lisa and Kieth returning to Cody Wyoming to concentrate on Seidel's Saddlery we have decided to downsize the gallery and move to Old Town Scottsdale. We are now open in our new location at 7707 E. Main St , in Old Town Scottsdale. Keith & Lisa can be reached at www.siedelssaddlery.com or at 307 587 1200
